Affiliate Marketing And Multiple Streams of Income

Affiliate marketing is undoubtedly the fastest way to make money online, especially for  internet marketing beginners.

But perhaps the most attractive feature of affiliate marketing is that it allows one to have multiple sources of income. Thus it makes your efforts to earn money online sustainable, as the  article reprinted below shows.

Joining affiliate programs is then the next logical step to widen your money-making opportunities. But as there are so many program available, it pays to consider several factors in figuring out for yourself which affiliate marketing programs to promote.

There are so many strategies that can be applied in affiliate marketing. To assure your survival online, you may want to know the basic strategies towards a profitable affiliate income.

How To Have Multiple Streams Of Affiliate Income by Jeff Mulligan
If you have been studying Internet marketing you have likely come across the term “multiple streams of income”. The concept is simple as it relates to the adage “more is better”.

In business, any business, creating multiple streams of income is a way of securing a business for the future. In a large corporation an example of multiple streams of income would be a varied product line, different products that appeal to different consumer groups. It would be like a breakfast food company selling cereal, waffles, and muffins. Each type of breakfast food appeals to different consumers. In affiliate marketing multiple streams of income could come from promoting various types of products, such as software for tracking investments, an ebook on budgeting and an ecourse on debt management.

A strength of having multiple income streams is that if one portion of your business slows or disappears, you can rely on the other products to sustain your business. If you depend on just one stream of income and it fails, so does your entire business, requiring you to start-over to rebuild your business. Having multiple streams of income is your insurance for a sustainable business.

Affiliate marketing is likely one of the most desirable ways to have multiple sources of income. This is because affiliate programs can come in very different formats. Many affiliate programs allow you to register for them and begin making money immediately. As an affiliate marketer you make money by selling and promoting products and by recruiting other affiliates. An added bonus to this scenario is that the product owners usually provide incredibly valuable materials to teach the affiliate how to market their specific product. They provide you with resources, tested materials and insight on selling their product.

An example of this would be an affiliate storefront style web site; where you have the ability to promote a variety of products in addition to several other affiliate programs all through one affiliate link. With your one affiliate link would have your multiple streams of income all in one location. When you are researching a storefront web site opportunity, be sure to look for one that provides promotional tools and information for affiliates.

To build the most solid business online you must have multiple streams of income. To be successful with affiliate marketing or any other type of business you need to have patience, persistence and an interest to learn as much as possible.

Improve Your Income Potential

2010 is the new beginning we’ve all been waiting for!  Want to engage in empowering strategies and improve your income potential? The article reprinted below show some simple ways to engage in revenue-changing strategies that will boost your life on the internet.

How To Take Advantage of the Holiday Slow Down
by Jeff Mulligan

Unless you are selling gifts or other Christmas-related items, December can be a deadly slow time of the year. Marketing-related sales can fall off by 50% or more. On the other hand, January often kicks off with a roar as thousands of new customers enter the marketplace thanks to well-meaning New Year’s Resolutions that involve working from home and making more money.

So what can you do about it? Here are some ideas.

1. Work on your site.

If you’ve got a To Do list, now is the time to attack it with a vengeance. Fix those graphics. Rewrite that sales letter. Add those new products for which you purchased resell rights. Get your infrastructure ready for new customers.

2. Test

Now is also a great time to test new ideas. Create a new sales page and see how it pulls vs your old page. While it may take a bit longer to get a statistically significant sample, at least you will know what works better when hot-selling January rolls around.

3. Build your autoresponders

If you don’t have an email list you are continually promoting to, now is the time to start one. You can’t find a guru that doesn’t agree that the list IS your business. So how do you start? There are gigabytes worth of products, eBooks and advice on eZines our there. Jimmy D. Brown’s Ezine Profit Producer is one of the most respected (http://www.cbmall.com/pvm/epp.asp)

4. Strengthen your Affiliate Program

If you have an affiliate program, now is the time to make it better. What have you offered your affiliates lately? Create some new banners. Write an article or ad they can use. Give them some new promotional ideas that seem to be working for you.

This idea worked great for me. I created an upgrade program that included significant new benefits. Not only did it increase the commissions earned by my own affiliates, but many of them took advantage of the upgrade as well, increasing my sales. (Make any offer like this attractive to your affiliates, mine only paid 50% of what others would pay.) Every product should have an upsell option – does yours? If not, create one!

5. Join new affiliate programs

This is a great time to research new affiliate programs that can add multiple income streams to your web portfolio. Look for programs that fit well with your target niche, offer significant ongoing income potential, and provide excellent customer support.

Another tip: Carefully analyze how much work program demands. Can you make enough extra money to justify the additional work required on your part? Remember, your time is the most valuable asset you have.

Summary

While this may be a slow season for sales, December offers great opportunities for webmasters to improve the performance, effectiveness and income potential of their internet business. Take advantage of this time by working on the things you can leverage when January sales take off.

Buying Stuff: Internet Marketing Beginner’s Strategy

In the ultimate quest for making big bucks online,  internet marketing beginners fall prey to buying the latest “make easy money online” craze.  As there are several thousands or even millions of those schemes existing in the internet today, newbies may potentially lose their a lot of their money first even before earning their first buck online. That is, if they’re not careful.

Stop Buying Stuff! – should be among the first in the beginner’s arsenal of tips when trying to learn online marketing for the first time.  This wise strategy will not only save you money but save you time as well.

It is worthwhile to reprint this article from Jeff Mulligan that explains well the perils of buying into every “make big money online” tactics and how to be wise in buying internet marketing courses to help you really make the big bucks online.

Who’s Your Guru? by Jeff Mulligan

The other day I was talking to a guy at the health club I just joined. (Never had time when I was working for someone else.) We started talking about our personal trainers. If you aren’t familiar with the term, these are fitness experts who are educated to design work-out routines based on an individuals strengths, needs and goals.

Anyway, Rick said something that struck me right between the eyes. “I got so confused reading all the books and fitness magazines. Everyone has a different opinion of what works the best. I finally figured if I was going to work out, I might as well pick one expert, listen to them and follow their program.”

Later, as I was driving my sore body home, I thought about how appropriate Rick’s comment was to Internet Marketing. Everyone’s an expert. (Even people who have yet to sell their first eBook.) And there are a million programs, books, secrets, techniques and tactics that will work for you.

The problem is, you can easily fall into what my favorite business school professor called, “Analysis Paralysis”. That’s where a lot of people are stuck. They keep reading, and it gets in the way of actually doing something.

I was guilty

I was guilty of this, too. I must have bought several hundred dollars worth of books and courses before I found what worked for me.

Fortunately, the expert I decided to follow was, in hindsight, an excellent choice. And by following his advice and listening to his ideas, I have built up a couple of successful income streams.

My point isn’t that my “guru” is the right one for everyone. The point is to pick one or maybe a couple of people you really respect, and model them. Of course, make sure they are actually successful in their own businesses first. But when you find someone you respect and whose style you like, listen to their advice and follow what they recommend in their writings.

Save Your Brain

Following this strategy can save lots of brain cells that you would spend switching strategies and tactics. It avoids confusion and gives you a good point of reference from which to work.

You don’t have to keep reading and searching for the latest eBooks. Assume your guru knows the latest tactics and will advise you of how well they work.

I’m not saying you never look at another eBook or eZine again, it’s just that you have one primary star you follow, it’s that much easier to find your way.

Google Analytics Website Tracking Metrics

Google analytics is among those must-tools for webmasters if you’re interested in tracking and enhancing the performance of your website. Not only is it free to use but google analytics is also very handy because there’s no software or script to install on your site.

Using google analytics is simply a matter of inserting a few lines of code to the website pages you want to track. After which real visitor data is instantly collected by google without your intervention. If it is as simple as that, why is every webmaster not using it? Why won’t every online business owner, every internet marketing beginner make good use of this free service of google analytics?

Enhanced reporting

Assuming that you’ve installed google analytics tracking on each of your webpages, there still remains the task of interpreting the tracking data gathered. And even bigger is the task of making changes to your website as a result of the tracking data you’ve analysed from google analytics.

I can’t help but be amazed at the wealth of data that google analytics gives me once the tracking codes are installed on my websites. It takes a great deal of learning experience to really appreciate the depth and extent of valuable website tracking data that google analytics provide. Not to mention that you can get report of all of these tracking metrics data straight to your email inbox any time, if you so desire. Such a free software loaded with enhanced services is so very hard to find!

Visitors tracking metrics

Four main categories of website tracking data are presented in the google analytics dashboard: visitors, traffic sources, content and goals. About visitors trending, the data on these metrics can easily be seen and understood: visits, absolute unique visitors, pageviews, average pageviews, time on site, bounce rate. You can also find out how loyal your visitors are to your website because you can track the length and depth of their visits, how many webpages they visited and how long ago was their recent visit.

You’ll get to see the graphs of most of these metrics in your google analytics dashboard. In addition, you’ll also know these other details like the type of web browsers, operating systems, screen colors, screen resolutions, flash version, presence or absence of java support your website visitors are using. Or their network properties like network location, hostnames and connection speeds.

The above metrics are only for the first category of website visitors tracking data. There are more that all need to examined and appreciated in another post.

Website Traffic Tracking Metrics

Tracking measurements are not only critical  for technical or scientific processes but are also useful and effective for website performance. In fact, for online businesses, website tracking is not an option but an indispensable tool for sustaining your business.

Pageviews and other metrics

For anyone maintaining a website, it is always important to know how many visitors your website receives. It is also important to know how much time they spend on your website, where they come from and what webpages they have viewed, among other things.

A useful metric is the pageview or page impression. It is the number of times a web page is accessed  regardless of how many hits were generated.  Another useful metric is the unique view. It is a pageview made by a unique person or search robot normally identifiable through a unique IP address.

ISP statistical packages

Sometime ago, a mere website counter which counts and displays the number of visitors a website receives was sufficient. But the data from these counters are unreliable and incomplete. Tracking analysis softwares offer a more reliable option to analyse user behavior and website traffic. These trackers provide detailed information as to the date, time, visitors, unique visitors, browsers used, pageviews, traffic referrers and many other metrics.

Monthly Website Traffic from AWStats

Most webhosting plans include at least one free tracking software; the most popular of which are AWStats and Webalizer. These are open-source, free programs that are very easy to use.  Both have a nice graphical interface and the statistical data are presented in a nice layout which can be easily understood. If you are looking for a webhost, it will definitely be wise to choose that ISP which offers such complimentary statistical packages as part of your hosting plan.

Google Analytics website metrics

In addition to these complimentary tracking softwares, there is always Google Analytics which you can get for free and install painlessly in your website.  Google analytics provide more important website traffic metrics like the number of pages a visitor visits, the average time visitors stay on your website, the bounce rate and the number of new or returning visitors to your site. If you have an ecommerce site you can track how many visitors become paying customers.  Or you may just want to track how many visitors become opt-in subscribers to your mailing list.

Bounce Rate

Because of its filtering mechanisms which are usually not found in other statistical packages, Google Analytics provide a more accurate and relevant website visitor statistics. A good example is the bounce rate which tells you the number of one-page visits to your site. That means you can know the rate of those people who leave your website without seeing a second page.  In order to have an accurate measurement of the bounce rate, you should therefore not include your own visits to your site.

Bounce rate is just one metric you can track and improve on in order to enhance the performance of your website. And definitely it’s one of those useful strategies for the success of your online business.
